Guild Recruitment

Ok all u fun and crazy guild mates its time to add to our ranks. If u know of someone who would make a great addition to our lovey family feel free to invite them, but we do have one big rule before we do so. Rule # 1 no one under 18 , we have had problems in the past when we invite kids its a hazel and just causes many problems so we just do not do it. I feel that everyone in this wonderful guild has been here long enough to know what we are about. We do have a few questions that we ask sometimes so feel free to use them or u can come up with your own if u like . I just like to let people know alittle about us and find out alittle about them as well. #1 how old are u #2 what do u enjoy about wow #3 what are some of your hobbies. #4 What are u looking for in a guild. #5 how do u like your bacon crispy or chewy. Feel free to use these or like I said u can come up with your own also every new guild mate will be at the lowest rank until we get to know them this is to protect our guild bank and doesn't mean that they are a bad person we have had our guild bank robbed before and don't want it to happen again. So go out and invite some fun and wonderful people to our fun filled guild family, also if anyone has any questions at anytime please feel free to ask me i am usually on as one of many toons Evilchic,Gibraltar,Holychicken, redlittle, or Desdomona or u can always email me at daveycrkt@gmail.com. Look foward to meeting all the wonderful people that will join our guild family soon

Week in Review - Tortugas Haven

All,

What a wild week for the guild!! We did so many things last week and they were all fun. Okay here is the shout out..Miss you Sabr!! Here are the highlights:
1. Vizeroth returned to the game..yay for musicians everywhere!
2. Halazar returned to the game..yay for guys who put up with Davey everywhere!
3. We raided Ulduar and managed to down 5 bosses (Flame Leviathan, Razorscale, XT-002 Deconstructor, Kologarn, and Auriaya). Great first attempt by many members and we all learned a bunch. Find out more about Ulduar at http://www.wowwiki.com/Ulduar_(instance
4. We cleared three wings of Naxxramus!
5. We did Obsidian Sanctum with 8 (count them 8) guildies.
6. We did numerous heroic runs and H TOC.
7. We all spent some time leveling alts.
8. Did some Pirate Day and Brewfest action. (Note: Brewfest still in progress).
9. Finally.....Seffera still did not get boots. EPIC FAIL!!

All in all, it was a great week and one in which we had great fun!! I want to really thank Naffenu and Spacedevil for their leadership during the raids. The experience was great and it is nice to have two guildies who can put up with noobs and do not give up!!

Also want to welcome all our new members and congratulate Bastille for trying tanking, Dreamlynn for leveling like a madwoman, and the rest of you new joiners for your solid contributions. Please remember to ask for help when you need it..i guarantee that 90% of the time someone will step up and help you!
Thanks,
Wahoo (p.s. this is me on casual friday at work..motivating the minions)

Raiding

Raiding can be fun . It is not always fun but if u have a good group it make a huge difference. I think that in this guild we have a lot of people who have but a lot of time into their toons and that is great and I would love to these toons go to the next lvl and get some great gear. WoW has made this easier with the new emblems system that have added, but there is still great gear to be gotten in raids. I think the problem we have had in your running of raids is the lack of knowledge about the raid we are running. Now their are some raids that don't take a lot to learn such as OS or Obsidian Sanctum there are a couple of things u need to know on this but no where close to as much as needs to be known for Naxxramas. Naxx takes some time planing and strategy to complete and knowing the fights makes all the difference between a good run and a complete disaster. I have found a very helpful web site to assist in this area the site is
http://wow.zuggaming.com/2008/11/24/naxxramas-10-man-instance-guide-boss-strategies/ this web site goes through all the bosses in naxx it also has videos of all the fights and the strats for each fight. I strongly believe if we watch this a few times get to know the fight the next time we roll into naxx we will leave it in shambles. I really hope this helps and I look forward to us destroying naxxramas as a guild and getting everyone some awesome gear and achievements

Your buddy, pal HolyChicken

Blizzcon 2009

First of all, I will now begin every blog with:

"MISS YOU SABR AND VIZ!"

Now that this is taken care of...let me begin.

For those of you who know what Blizzcon is...WTG...if you do not it is a yearly conference about all things World of Warcraft and includes important updates regarding new releases, expansions, patches, new in-game items, etc.

For example this year it was revealed:

1. Worgen would be a new Alliance race and Goblins will be the new Horde race.

2. All races will get access to new classes. (Dwarven Shaman?)

3. The old world will suffer a cataclysmic event and be completely redone to include several instances. This will also allow flying mounts in the Azeroth.

4. New raids are coming.

5. Many stats are going away such as attack power, spell power, etc.

For this and many more updates please feel free to check out the website at:

Thanks,

Wahoo

Mountain Dew Battle Bot Pet

All,

Have you got your mountain dew pet yet? If so, then cool lets fight!!

If not..the directions are below. Good Luck!!

Battle-Bots are out in the US ... and in EU
I talked about the Mountain Dew Battle-Bots plenty of time in the past weeks and they are now available in game! Even if it is clearly an US only event it seems that the bot is currently available in Europe .... All you need to do is :

  • 1. Link your WoW account to a Battle.Net account on the US Battle.net or EU Battle.net website.
  • 2. Register on Moutain Dew Gamefuel website and login.
  • 3. Click the picture at the bottom right to redeem your pet, login on Battle.net.
  • 4. Click the "Redeem Item" button at the bottom of the page, even if it says US only it definitely works for EU players too.
  • 5. Connect to the game and just get your bot in the mail!

Sabr's World of Eating: No. 4

Sabr's No-Bake Cookies

I couldn't resist.

1/2 cup butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk
4 tablespoons cocoa (unsweeted)
1/2 cup peanut butter (creamy or chunky)
3 1/2 cups oats (I use the quick kind)
2 teaspoons vanilla

In a medium saucepan, add the butter, sugar, milk, and cocoa powder.
Cook over medium high heat, stirring until mixed.
Bring the mixture to a full rolling boil and keep it boiling for exactly 1 minute.
Remove from heat; stir-in peanut butter, oats and vanilla.
Drop by tablespoons onto wax paper.
They are immediately ready to eat, but rather mushy.
I recommend popping them in the freezer to make them harder and easier to eat.

Happy Eating!

Funny Things on a Friday

All,

I wanted to take a second and reach out to from the Calico Jack's Cabin. Sometimes as I ramble about this ship we call "Tortugas Haven" I do not always take the time to speak to all the deckhands :) I just wanted to stop and say how much I appreciate all of you in the guild and that each of you make it a special place that I enjoy visiting quite frequently. In order to repay some of the happiness that you all bring to me...I have broken out some Friday funnies!!

First of all, if you have ever seen those motivational posters and wondered "Do they have WOW motivational posters?" Guess what? THEY DO!! Here is a quick link to some funny WOW posters:

http://images.google.com/ and just search for WOW Motivational Poster

Next..some jokes:

Q: What do you get if you put an Undead Rogue in water?
A: Soup!

Two Tauren are standing in a paddock..one says "Mooooooo". The other says "Bastard! I was going to say that!"

Q: What do you get when you cross a Wahoofish with a female Night Elf?
A: I don't know but, sweet jesus, I would like to find out!!

If you want more funny jokes, google your own :)

Finally, for all those who have had about Leroy but have never really understood. THis is the link to the official LEEEROOOYYY video. It is a must watch for all WOW players:

Okay..thanks for reading and have a great weekend! If you want to post more funnies, feel free to comment on this thread!!

Sabr's World of Eating: No. 3

Sabr's (Healthy!) Cheesy Potato Chicken Soup

6 Cups Water
6 Medium/Small Potatoes
3-4 Carrots
1/2 of a Yellow Onion
2-4 Boneless Chicken Breasts
1-2 Cups Milk
1/2 Cup Cheese (I've used both sharp cheddar and those pre-sliced sandwich cheese squares) Don't use non-fat or soy, they don't melt well.

Bring the water to a boil in a large pot.
In the meantime, peel and dice the potatoes, carrots, and onion.
Toss the vegetables into the boiling water. After the water is at a rolling boil for about 5 minutes, turn it down to a high simmer.
While watching the pot, dice the chicken and cook in a separate pan.
When the vegetables are tender (about 10 minutes into the simmer) toss in the chicken, the milk, and the cheese. You may want to shred the cheese before hand to aid in the melting.
Season to taste. I use garlic/garlic salt, red pepper flakes (use sparingly!!) and black pepper.

Keep in mind all these ingredients are approximate, so feel free to use more or less depending on what you like and don't like.

Happy Eating!

Guild Rules

All,

Guild rules have been posted on the guild website (www.tortugashaven.com) and are available for viewing at http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dfs6jj29_20c86549fc

Guild Policy
All members must adhere to these guidelines. There is a “three strikes, you're out” policy in effect. Any member receiving a strike will be notified by an officer. Actions or comments made by any member that contain excessive vulgarity or discriminatory content are grounds for immediate removal from the guild.
Tortuga's Haven will henceforth be referred to as TH in this document.

General Rules
TH members must treat each other with respect.
TH members are representatives of the guild at all times and must conduct themselves in a professional manner when participating in events with other players.
No member is required to contribute to the guild bank, though it is encouraged.
All members have the right to pass on participation in guild events that are of no interest. No TH member shall ever threaten or pressure another member into attending a specific activity. This includes but is not limited to:
Raiding
Running an instance
Participating in a contest etc.
This is a casual guild. Therefore, no member is ever required to be online a certain amount of hours a week to keep their rank.
TH members should do all in their abilities to help other members. This includes but is not limited to:
Running a low level member through a low level instance
Using profession skills to craft an item for a member
Giving advice on a particular boss fight or piece of gear
Farming mats for the guild bank
Helping other members with quests or achievements
TH condemns the use of “power leveling” and will consider removal of a member if there is evidence to suggest the use of these services.
Members who have not been online for a month are subject to removal. This is to keep our roster current and active. Alts are not affected by this policy.

Vent and Guild Chat Rules
Abuse of these rules results in revocation of vent/guild chat privileges. Vent and chat may be suspended at the same time or separately depending on the circumstances.
All general rules regarding respect and conduct are applicable to use of vent/guild chat.
Requests made by TH members regarding microphone volume on vent are to be addressed to the best of one's abilities.
Please do not excessively link “mad lootz” in the guild chat.
Please conduct instance communication in party chat. If one is using vent while conducting an instance, please be considerate of those who are not in the party and join a separate room if necessary.
Any topic that makes a member uncomfortable must immediately cease at the request of the offended member.

Raid and Instance Conduct
All PUG party members are to be treated with the same respect we afford to our guild members.
No member is to be awarded loot above any other member.
TH members are expected to contribute as much as possible to the success of the run. Excessive wipes due to player error are a waste of everyone's time.

New Member Rules
New members must be given the same respect we give all members.
Players that are recommended by TH members are subject to the same recruitment process as everyone.
New members with the “Cabin Boy” title are in a trial period and may be removed from the guild for any one rule infraction at the discretion of the Calico Jack.

Guild Recruitment
This material is only applicable to those with the privilege to invite new members.
The following is an example of trade chat recruiting:
Tortuga's Haven is a casual leveling guild with fun and friendly members, accepting all classes and levels. Running every instance from Deadmines to 80 heroics. Some members raid, some go nuts over achievements. All bank tabs, tabard, vent. Ages 21+ only.
Please ask these questions (or something similar) when recruiting. This is how we determine if a player would be a good fit1. What do you like to do the most in WoW?2. How would you describe yourself as a player?3. What are some qualities you look for in a guild?4. What qualities do you see yourself bringing to this guild?5. What are some of your hobbies in real life?7. Are you over 21?6. How do you like your bacon, crispy or chewy?

Sabr's Delicious No-Bake Peanut Butter Cereal Balls

1 cup Corn Syryp
1 cup Granulated Sugar
1 cup Peanut Butter
6 cups Cereal, I use Rice Crispies, my mom uses Wheaties

In a small pot, combine corn syrup and sugar on low-med heat until sugar is mostly dissolved.
Add peanut butter and stir well.
Put the cereal into a large mixing bowl.
Pour half of the peanut butter mixture over the cereal and stir with a wooden spoon until mostly coated.
Pour the rest in and stir until all is well-mixed.
Get out a cooling rack and cover it with a sheet of wax paper.
Make the cereal mixture into ping-pong sized balls, rolling them between your palms.
Place finished balls on rack to cool.

Makes about 30-40 balls. Always a hit!

Happy eating!

Add-Ons for the Addict

Hello my fellow Turtle Haven-ers!
This is a post I've been intending to write for a very long time! These are some of my favorite add-ons that every add-on addict needs to consider adding to his own bag of tricks.

First of all, I use the Curse Client (available from www.curse.com) for all my add-on needs. I like it because it automatically downloads updates to my add-ons, I can search for add-ons without visiting the website, and I can delete add-ons without visiting my Program Files. In fact, I haven't been to that Interface folder in like, 6 months. I should send it a postcard...

For the sake of conciseness, I'm going to try and not repeat any of the add-ons that Wahoo mentioned in his post.

Cartographer
This is a great map add-on that plays nice with questhelper. You can turn the fog (that undiscovered space) on or off, which is great for going where you need to go, even if you haven't gone there before. Cartographer also has instance maps, battleground maps, and built-in coordinates. There's also a bunch of cool note options I haven't dinked around with yet.

Dominos
There used to be this great add-on for action bars called Bongos, but the person who made it stopped updating it and made this one instead. In between Bongos and Dominos I tried many different action bar add-ons and none have made me as happy as this one. I use all 10 of the available actions bars with 12 slots on each. This gives me a whopping 120 spaces to use, or not use. In addition to all my spells and professions, I have my hearthstone, my pots and foodz, my funny trinkets, and most of my pets and mounts available to click on instantly. This mostly leads to me having a different mount every time I choose to ride, but I'm random (read: awesome) like that. You can change the scale of the bars, so my pets and mounts are tinier than my spells and such.

Healbot
I know I said I wasn't going to repeat any of Wahoo's, but I have to say few things about Healbot. This add-on should be a requirement for healers. For example, I have key or mouse combinations for every spell I normally use. This means I merely have to click on your name in the tidy healbot box to do anything I want to you. That's what she said. I can also see what healing spells are already on you, see any incoming heals that would render mine pointless, and judge whether you have all your buffs, and with a mouse-over, see when those buffs expire. I can see when you are poisoned or diseased, whether you are out of range, and whether you are in combat. All this from glancing over at this tiny box of delicious joy. Its even fancier for raids. I'm done now, let me wipe up my drool and continue to the next add-on...

myReputation
This is one of my favorites because of it's simplicity. What happens with this one is every time I kill a mob that gives rep, I get some text that pops up in my chat window. It says how much rep I just received, for whom, and how many repetitions of that particular mob it would take to get to the next rep level. Also, I enjoy the large and exciting text that pops up in the middle of my screen whenever I level my rep. This is a must for reputation and achievement junkies.

NotesUNeed
This is my new favorite. I am able to add notes to individual players. I got this with the intention of marking those players that have been less-than-desirable to play with. Now, of course, I use it to mark everyone I come into contact with. It has a very detailed window for each person where you can fill in their class, professions, etc. but it also has some pre-made one-liners that are quick to set and show up next to their name in chat or in a mouse-over tool-tip. These are funny and serious. I marked Viz as a "Mr. Bean", the definition being "a player that is always wandering off, pulling adds from every direction." Wahoo is a "Roadrunner," or, "a player that runs at top speed toward every chest, quest objective, or shiny bauble, usually resulting in adds, a scattered group, and a wipe." Fun right?

RecipeRadar
This particular add-on tracks recipes you haven't learned yet on your mini-map. That's right, if you forgot to buy that blue lumberjack shirt recipe from that dude in Khranos 50 years ago, it now shows up on your mini map (or on a convenient drop-down menu that corresponds to each zone). I really like this because there's always those weird obscure recipes that get sold by the most random vendors. I would never think to look in their bags. That's what she said. This add-on is a must for anyone serious about leveling their professions.

Here's a nice little picture of my UI setup. I try to keep everything mostly clean and out of the way.

And with that I will close my lengthy post. I do want to reiterate my love for Titan Panel, Quest Helper, Auctioneer, and Atlas Loot, all of which were covered by Wahoo but deserve a plug at the end.

Your favorite Draenei (<---I just learned I've been saying and spelling this wrong) Holy Priest,
Sabr

General Guild Update - It is that time!!

All,

Well we all have been very, very busy and accomplishing many great and wonderful things. This is just an update to let everyone know what is coming up in the near future and about some recent in-game accomplishments.

So far the Meat Master and Cloth Master tournaments have been fairly successful. Many guildmates have received great high quality gifts for participating and have enjoyed the experience. Additionally, the guild bank and guildmate professions have really benefited from these contests. Everyone is enjoying the plethora of food and mats available. So...due to the large success of these contests we will be introducing a new contest that will occur on a monthly basis focused on the collection of crystallized mats (crystallized fire, earth, water, air, and life). These mats can be used to create eternal fire, earth water, air and life. There are several areas within Northrend to farm these mats and they are extremely useful in several professions such as tailoring, alchemy, blacksmithing, and leatherworking. This new contest will be titled "Master of Crystallization"!! Dates for all upcoming contests follow:

  • Meat Master - March 27 at 8pm EST

  • Cloth Master - March 28 at 8pm EST

  • Master of Crystallization - April 4 at 8pm EST

Okay..now we are moving on to something very important..A GUILD PHOTO and PARTY!!!! The 1st Annual Guild Easter Party and Photo will take place on April 11, 2009 in Menethil Harbor aboard the moored ship. During this party there will be contests of various types, prizes, and a guild photo will be taken. Party will last approximately 1 hour so please show up to partake in the fun.

Finally, I would like to take a moment to recognize some significant recent accomplishments or accomplishments in process:

  • Sabr and Elwynd just cannot stop exploring. Dora watch out!!

  • Judex and his alt Swashbuckler have joined the guild..Welcome!!

  • Holychic and Wahoofish recently earned War Bears for completing the "For the Alliance" achievements.

  • Several members (Seffera, UrPally, Wowsham, Grejius, Shekhinah, etc.) have reached level 70 or greater. Fantastic work!!

  • Mustardhead no longer misenchants..we have made progress.

  • Vizeroth and Acherus both recently took down a Northrend rare!

Oh yeah one more thing..I have been doing some guild statistic work and have noticed we could use some plussing up in the following areas: So for those of you out there recruiting (most of you have the power) please keep in mind that we need more of the below:

  • Mages

  • Shamans

  • Warlocks

  • Rogues

  • Jewelcrafters

  • Engineers

Thanks all for your continued membership in the guild. It is through the combination of our quirkiness, kindness, sense of humor, and wide range of player types that makes this guild so special. I truly enjoy talking to each of you because I know I will always enjoy myself.

Your fortunate, poor at tanking forget to set 20% aggro increase, in love with Britney and Chuck Norris, achievement worshipping, Guild Leader,

Wahoofish

Sabr's World of Eating: No.1

Sabr's Delish Homemade Chocolate Sauce for Ice Cream:
1/4 cup Butter
3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
1/4 cup Unsweetened Cocoa
1/4 cup Corn Syrup
1/2 cup Milk
2 tsp Vanilla Extract

I have tried this with both skim milk and soy milk and it all tasted fine.

Melt butter on low heat.
Remove from heat and add sugar, cocoa and corn syrup. Stir.
Add milk until the sauce has a consistency you like. I personally don't add all the milk, probably like 2/3 of it.
Put back on heat and add vanilla. Stir until smooth.
Serve by drizzling warm sauce onto the ice cream.

I usually double this recipe so I have leftovers.

Happy eating!
